Scene Breakdown with Geordie Brookman | Contemporary Naturalism
The work of Andrew Bovell
Over a three hour session participants will be guided through approaches to working with contemporary naturalistic texts focussing on the work of legendary Australian playwright and screenwriter Andrew Bovell. Using scenes from Things I Know To Be True and Speaking in Tongues the workshop will look at how to analyse and prepare the texts for rehearsal and unearth vital clues to help character development.
Andrew Bovell is an internationally recognised writer for the stage and screen. His award winning theatre credits include The Secret River (National Theatre, Edinburgh International Arts Festival, Adelaide Festival, Sydney Theatre Company) Things I Know To Be True (Frantic Assembly, State Theatre Company South Australia, Lyric Hammersmith London) and When The Rain Stops Falling (Almeida Theatre, Lincoln Centre NY, Adelaide Festival) and his screen work includes A Most Wanted Man (directed by Anton Corbijn), Edge of Darkness, Lantana and Strictly Ballroom. He is currently adapting Things I Know To Be True for Amazon starring Nicole Kidman and Stoner for Blumhouse.
GEORDIE BROOKMAN is one of Australia’s leading theatre and music theatre directors. From 2012 – 2019 he was the Artistic Director and Co-CEO of State Theatre Company South Australia. He has directed three of Ibsen’s major works, ‘Ghosts’, ‘Hedda Gabler’ and ‘A Doll’s House’.
